As advanced auto technologies hit the road, car insurance companies will need to test drive new types of policies.
Terrafugia, Inc., a company based in Woburn, Mass., recently completed a flight-testing program for its Transition Roadable Aircraft, dubbed “The Flying Car.” It is expected to be available in 2011.
The two-seat auto/aircraft hybrid is designed to take off and land at local airports and drive on any road. It transforms from plane to car in less than 30 seconds. It will be able to cruise up to 450 miles in the air and at over 115 miles per hour on the road.
Drivers/pilots will buy fuel at any gas station (it runs on unleaded gas). It’s even designed to fit into a garage! The current projected price for each flying car is $194,000. You can reserve yours now with a $10,000 deposit. The company says it already has in excess of 70 firm orders.

Regular car insurance might not be able to protect classic cars to such extend, and therefore there is a need for classic car owners to purchase classic car insurance to protect the cars to the maximum.
